A quiet place in San Marco

One of the most visited sestieri, San Marco nevertheless contains almost hidden little streets and quiet canals.

A river of old wine never looked so good.
That bridge featured very briefly in Death in Venice, but the characters were viewed from the other side of the bridge.

I loved all of these quiet little nooks in Venice, it was so nice to be able to get away from the crowds so easily - one or two turns in the opposite direction and you had space to yourself.

Lovely peaceful reflection...and a nice place for reflection on the beauties of Venice, just hidden around a corner.

It's true—Venice's quiet places are the best. But even Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Market are quiet places—and you can have them practically to yourself if you're willing to get up at dawn or stay up late. :~}
