Yes, it would, Djitty². To Venice afficionados (and Venetians) it is known as a 'vera da pozzo'. Water is now piped over from the mainland, and there are no working wells in Venice, though there is one on one of the islands of the lagoon that can still be used.
Almost any book on Venice will tell you all about it.

By the way, 'Corte Sconta' means 'hidden courtyard' - it is not the name of this courtyard.
