A Venetian Backyard
The last mystery photo was such a resounding success (!) that I'm going to give you all another opportunity to display your knowledge of Venice. This corte was under restoration for at least a couple of years, as I tried to get in to take a photo on several visits. Below is the reason that I was trying to get a photo.
This photo comes from "Things Seen in Venice" by L. and L.M. Ragg, published in 1931, so I hope it's out of copyright. It was captioned "A Venetian Backyard". If you haven't been into this backyard, you will have great difficulty in finding it, as it is off the beaten track, so I will give you a bit of help – it's quite near to San Zanipolo. For those who can't wait, here is the answer (in white): Corte de la Botera
You just need to drag your cursor over the area to see the words.
Btw, Pierre is back and will be posting again soon. I will post now and again.

I cannot tell you how much pleasure it gives me to see this courtyard restored. They've truly preserved it. Love the well. Are any of wells found in Venice still in use?
Hi Bert, I love the place, and won't tell it where it is not to spoil. What I can say is that unfortunately it's now closed by an iron gate and that you have been lucky to make this image. This corte sconta always makes me recall Corto Maltese...
ODP - Venice has been supplied with water from the mainland for over 100 years now. I am almost certain that none of the wells in Venice is in use. I have heard that there is a working well on one of the minor islands in the lagoon, but I can't remember which one it was.
One of the best of many good ones, Bert - We admire the diligence needed to get the update shot in exactly the same composition as the original. There's something fascinating about seeing the effect that time has on a place - and what a well-funded restoration can do, too! Oh, and - welcome back, Pierre.
Wonderful post, Bert. I've read about this corte and its Byzantine arch, but your photo is the nicest one I've seen. Sorry to learn about the iron gate.
I am with Oakland DP on this. Its great that is is in better shape now than in 1931. I love it when people do now and then photos like this one. Nicely done Bert.
