Hi, Do you know, by chance, what they are singing, when celebrating their graduation? We once visited italy at that time and saw young people going through the streets singing and dancing and drinking (I think so). Greetings from Austria Elisabeth
They are singing: Dottore! Dottore! Dottore nel buso del culo! Vaffancul! Vaffancul!
It's a traditional song for the laurea specific to the Veneto! It's rather crude, but a wonderful bit of culture to experience. The posters are called papiri. They have a caricature of the graduate in the middle and funny stories about them around the sides. -Julie
Julie beat me to it! Years ago, I convinced a reluctant waiter at my fave place in Campo Santa Margherita to translate this little ditty for me. Have also seen newly minted dottore in Padua—where these posters are almost pornographic!
My pleasure! I'm fairly new to your blog, but I just love it! You remind me everyday of why I love Venice so much. I am an American college student and I studied abroad in Venice last year and fell in love with the city. I made a lot of Venetian friends, and during my stay in Venice, I was able to attend a thesis defense and I experienced many dottore songs!
