Molino Stucky

A massive building on the Giudecca island, facing the Giudecca canal and the Dorsoduro. It used to be a flour mill. Built in 1895 by the Swiss Giovanni Stucky, it closed in 1955 after a history of economic crisis for the company. The "molino" is now a luxurious hotel, the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice.

Meeting Place

Campo Santa Margherita is one of the most animated places in Venice. Day and night, young people, students and tourists like to gather here to take some rest, meet people and have a drink, either in one of the many bars of the campo or more casually sitting on the ground as young people of all countries like to do.

Summer in the City

Hot town summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk hotter than a match head...
Written by Mark Sebastian and Steve Boone, and is forever associated with The Lovin' Spoonful.

Later in the day...

After Santa Maria dei Carmini we stopped for a while in Campo Santa Margherita. When we arrived in San Barnaba the day was ending.
I remembered these words of Jean d'Ormesson :
J’ai beaucoup aimé travailler. J’ai aussi beaucoup aimé ne rien faire. J’ai surtout aimé partir, aller ailleurs, me promener, le nez en l’air et les mains dans les poches, à travers le vaste monde.
I'm sorry to give it in French. I would not want to rashly translate the poet.
But I'm sure that, among my dear visitors, an english-speaking and cultured mind will do it for us.
