That's not a dusk sky, Jack, that's a really long exposure. And the water's not eerily calm, that's just another effect of a long exposure - the ripples get sort of cancelled out. Of course, if a boat had gone through just before or during the exposure, it would not have looked quite so clear, but it would still look calm, as the ripples would not last long enough to register. Just how long was that exposure, Pierre?

Neither can I—at first glance, I have no idea where this is. Such a lovely image!
I see that I missed some great photos while I was away and this one had wonderful words to go with it.
We've been here before, Alexa. It's the Rio Malcanton. Pierre has his back to the Hotel Al Sole.
Nice photo, Pierre.
"Perfetto"- Perfection! Hope it's still like this when we get there a week on Monday!
I knew you would know, Bert! (I guess I'm slipping.) I really do love this image though—thanks, Pierre.
The canal waters look as smooth as glass.
No snow in Venice? Other cities in Europe are having a strange winter.
If you look in the mirrored water of the canal you will at least find your way to yourself...
I hope it's this calm on the 23rd,2nd Christmas in Venice!!!!
Beautiful! :D
Lovely dusk shot and eerily calm water. Nice.

Twice right Bert : about the location and about the long exposure ( Iso 800, F/7.1, 10 sec).
Oh dear, Venice is giving Paris a run for her money! This is gorgeous.
