The Post office : il Fondaco dei Tedeschi

This huge building, right near the Rialto Bridge, had been for centuries the German trading post and warehouse in Venice : il Fondaco dei Tedeschi. As many other palaces, that have been adapted to shelter civil services, this one is nowdays the Post Office.

What a fascinating post, Pierre! Why are the portraits so prominent displayed and who are they? Interesting how we reuse old buildings and change their main function.

This is such a fine composition and an interesting post. I would never have guess this was a post office without your commentary.

I wouldn't have thought that visiting the post office in Venice would end up on my 'must do' list... though of course, I would have a lot of postcards to mail. Lovely post, Pierre. :)

Beautiful. The only buildings I entered were churches, museums and restaurant/bars. I agree, this is nice.

Great shot, Pierre. I'd love to know what this display is all about. And the man in the center, in the hat—is that a standup figure?
