Harry's right, somebody in Venice told me that about five centuries ago women doing a... particular job displayed themselves in windows: these windows.
I did not know, which means that I MUST visit Venice to see for myself, but I doubt that the practice continues today. Interesting history !!(I googled the bridge after some previous comments!)
haha .. the boobie bridge, I think I saw a movie which answered this question. Pierre, visit my blog, there's something there for you (not related to what this bridge is famous for :-) ..
In medieval Venice's bustling trade with the Orient produced the most surprising effect - a boom in gay relationships, which became a serious social problem. So Almighty Council of the Ten, managing the republic, decided to take measures such as promoting prostitution. Thus occurred several neighborhoods of red lanterns (in the literal sense, since the prostitutes hung red lanterns on their gondolas). Prostitutes were allowed to open wide legs and showing their bare breasts from the windows (and from the bridges like Ponte delle Tette) in any attempt to seduce homosexuals and to enlist them in the right way. This was the treatment of Venetian patricians.

Err, is it famous for being photographed so beautifully by you, Pierre???
I do! And I wonder what kind of photo this would be if you'd been able to take it back in the 16th century. But I like Shell's answer too!
And I know, also. Too bad they didn't have cameras back then!! Good answer, Shell. Let's see if any of the fellows know the answer!
The clue is in the name of the bridge...

A woman's upper torso is a thing of beauty to behold. So is this shot.
