What! No gondoliers??!! Actually, I love the photo. I've been on a self-imposed sabbatical and will remain for a bit longer, but I surf the blogs on occasion to see what I'm missing. I love all the photos of yours that I haven't visited recently and enjoyed all of them. Will eventually return!
Such a pleasant way to get around. But if you lived on, say, the Lido, and wanted to come over in your boat to have a meal somewhere in Venice—where do you "park?" I mean, you can't just tie up anywhere.
You are right Alexa, this is pretty complicated indeed. You can't moor your boat anyplace. So you have to choose to dine in a place where you know it's possible to tie your boat. At some friend's leaving near a canal or in some (few) restaurants providing this service.

they are all in the same boat but each in his or her own world.
Seems very economical! Using a gondoliers can be rather expensive!

Just a family on the way to a restaurant. In the U.S., they would be in a car, of course, just watching the scenery go by.
