Palazzo Zen

Situated near the Gesuati, in the Cannaregio Sestiere, this large palace was built from 1537 by Francesco and Sebastiano Zen. On the facade, a stone tablet remembers two forerunners of this aristocratic family, Nicolo and Antonio Zeno who, around the year 1400, are said to have sail up to the northern Atlantic Ocean (and some say up to North America). A beautiful story wich is nowdays considered as a mere legend by most historians...

What a palace. Such texture and color. And I was thinking '1400, we have no structure here that is so old', and then I went on to read the story and thought 'what if...'

Beautiful photo, Pierre. And what an interesting legend—although as brattcat says, "What if . . ."

I love window and doors, this is great, the textures and the angle. Wonderful shot. The story is interesting, too, most legends are somehow based in truth .. so you never know, the reality could be more unusal than the legend!
