The Awards and Opening Ceremony of the 53rd International Art Exhibition took place on 6th June 2009 in the Giardini. The Board of the Venice Biennale has this year awarded two Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement to Yoko Ono and John Baldessari.
There is the Official comment of the Biennale about John Baldessari :
"John Baldessari one of today's most important visual artists. Often named the most important art teacher of our times, he has above all developed a visual language entirely his own. Since the 1960s, he has worked in many disciplines and has produced an outstanding body of work that has inspired several generations of artists."

Hi I think your photos are amazing :) I'm actually in love with Venice and going back for the third time in a couple of weeks so your photos are keeping me going until then! I have a couple of similar photos from the top of the Campanile and dozens of others. I actually recognise quite a few of the places in your photos too!
I wonder if the artist is being ironic or if he has been unhappy with some of his recent results.
In any case, he is getting attention.

Great shot of a Venetian landmark and the banner is fantastic. I love this shot. Thank you for making it posssible for us to enjoy the beauty and wonders of Venice even though we come from such faraway places.
Love Alain's photo, but I'm a copy editor so have to agree with Andy and Jeff: Wish this banner had said: "I will never again make boring art." or something more grammatically correct. (My word verification is "untypemi"—is that a subtle message?)
