Inside San Giorgio

In the little island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the famous architect Andrea Palladio began in 1559 the construction of this church and monastery. The church will not be achieved before 1614, with Vincenzo Scamozzi's façade (that I'll show you tomorrow).

I'm so happy to have found your photo blog. Venice is perhaps my favorite city and you capture its diversity with such an excellent eye. Thank you!

Great shot - is it as dark in there as in most other cathedrals?

Ah, Palladio. A classic. I just started viewing your VDP blog and I love it. I'll be there in May, and I'm a nut for the architecture you're showing, both grand and humble.

I've been communicating with Paris Daily Photo people for several years and we have had some picnics. Is anyone interested in meeting in Venice to say buongiorno, have some vino? I'll be there 8-11 May. It can be fun to meet real people from around the world.

Absolutely gorgeous, this photo—love the details in the architecture. The moldings alone are worth the trip to San Giorgio.

Jeff -- bonjour (or buongiorno). What a great idea to have a picnic a Venezia (assume you will then go to Parigi for the PDP pique-nique). Almost made it myself (long story), but work got in the way. Hope you manage to get together with everyone—in Paris AND Venice!
