"Gondola, gondola, gondole!"
"Gondola, gondola, gondole!" says the man with the striped shirt as you are walking over the bridge, along with the crowd, in front of San Moise church...
"Gondola, gondola, gondole!" clame l'homme à la chemise rayée, tandis que vous franchissez le pont au milieu de la foule, juste en face de l'église San Moise...
Seen in a shop window which could have belonged to the poor woodcarver Geppetto, Carlo Collodi's little wooden animated marionette...
Derrière une vitrine qui aurait pu être celle de la boutique du pauvre sculpteur sur bois Geppetto, la petite marionette en bois du roman de Carlo Collodi.
Heart of Venice, San Marco's Basilica, the "Golden Church" has been built from the 9th Century to shelter the relics of St Marco the Evangelist, brought from Alexandria in 828 by two merchants of Torcello and Malamocco.

Without its crowds of tourists standing in long lines to visit the Basilica, without its mobile souvenirs shops, the Piazzetta has such another appearance... My advice : when in Venice wake up early, it's rewarding!
Sans ses foules de touristes patientant en longues files pour visiter la Basilique, sans ses marchands de souvenirs ambulants, la Piazzetta a un aspect tellement différent... Mon conseil : à Venise, levez-vous tôt, vous en serez récompensé.
At the corner of the south and west sides of the wonderful Doge's Palace, this sculpture of Eve being given the apple. One has to look up to discover the statue, and I'm sure that Eve often goes unnoticed among so much wonders that have to be seen on the Piazzetta...
A l'angle des façades sud et ouest de cet incroyable construction qu'est le Palais des Doges se trouve cette sculpture d'Eve reçevant la pomme. Il faut lever les yeux pour la remarquer et je suis certain qu'Eve passe pour cette raison souvent inaperçu parmi toutes les merveilles qui s'offrent au visiteur sur la Piazzetta.
The Pescheria fish market, along the Grand Canal, not far from the Rialto Bridge. I love the ambient given by those red blinds. The Pescheria is a very lively place... great to visit in the morning and to buy some sea food.
Le marché au poisson de la Pescheria, le long du Grand Canal, tout près du pont du Rialto. J'aime l'ambiance donnée par ces stores rouges au travers desquels perce la lumière du matin. La Pescheria est un endroit très vivant... agréable à visiter de bonne heure pour acheter quelques produits de la mer.
East of Venice, Murano is a little island well known for its glass-makers. Built in 1912, its lighthouse is 115 meters high. Lighthouses and beacons are numerous in the Lagoon of Venice where navigation is still the only way to move from one place to another.
A l'est de Venise, Murano est une petite île bien connue pour ses artisans verriers. Construit en 1912, son phare est haut de 115 mètres. Phares et balises sont nombreux dans la Lagune de Venise, dans laquelle la navigation reste le seul moyen de se rendre d'un point à un autre.
A Squero is a shipyard dedicated to gondolas building, repairing and upkeep. The San Trovaso Squero is situated in the Dorsoduro sestiere, between the Zattere and San Trovaso Church.
Un Squero est un chantier naval consacré à la fabrication, la réparation et l'entretien des gondoles. Le Squero di San Trovaso est situé dans le quartier du Dorsoduro, entre les Zattere et l'église San Trovaso.
This old venetian palace was given in 1621 to the Turkish merchants community in order to let them have a warehouse and a trade center in the city. Almost in ruins at the end of the 19th century, it was restaurated in a way that is seen today as not conform to te original. The Fondaco Dei Turchi Houses now the Museum of Natural History.
Ce vieux palais vénitien fut cédé en 1621 à la communauté des commerçants turcs afin de leur permettre d'avoir un entrepôt et une base commerciale dans la cité. Pratiquement en ruines à la fin du 19e siècle, il fut rénové sans respect du style d'origine. Le Fondaco dei Turchi abrite aujourd'hui le Musée d'Histoire naturelle.
A night walk in San Pietro di Castello, near the Quintavalle wooden bridge, some steps from the old cathedral. The only noise you can hear is the clear sound of the water running in the yellow bucket.
Promenade nocturne à San Pietro di Castello, près de la passerelle en bois du Quintavalle, à deux pas de la vieille Cathédrale. Le seul bruit que l'on entend est le clair ruissellement de l'eau de la fontaine dans le baquet jaune.
No cars in Venice, as everybody knows... but no bikes either. Those, and hundred of other, are mostly abandoned ones on the Lido (where you will find bikes and cars), right near the vaporetto station to Venice. And a wink to Carlos, with his Lonely bike in Barcelona Beach...
Pas de voitures dans Venise, comme chacun sait... mais pas de bicyclettes non plus. Celles-ci et des centaines d'autres ont pour la plupart été abandonnées au Lido (où l'on trouve vélos et automobiles), sur un parking à proximité de la station du vaporetto pour Venise. Et au passage un salut à Carlos, avec sa Lonely Bike in Barcelona Beach...
In the aftermath of a terrible bubonic plague epidemic, the Republic of Venice decided that a votive church would be built. Choosen to work on this project the young architect Baldassare Longhena will dedicate fifty years of his life to this masterpice, from 1731 to his death in 1782.
Au lendemain d'une terrible épodémie de peste bubonique, la République de venise décida de la construction d'une église votive. Choisi pour réaliser le projet, le jeune architecte Baldassare Longhena y consacra plus de cinquante ans de sa vie, de 1731 jusqu'à sa mort en 1782.
On the boat from Burano to Venice, one has plenty of time to admire the shiny lagoon and to observe the sometimes heavy trafic between the islands. A nice trip on this large waterer area offers a feeling of great open spaces, which is always pleasant after some days spent in Venice's narrow streets... Sur le bateau qui fait la liaison entre Burano et Venise, on a tout son temps pour admirer l'étincelante Lagune et pour en observer le trafic souvent dense. Un agréable voyage sur cette vaste étendue d'eau offre un sentiment de grands espaces, toujours fort agréable après quelques jours passées au coeur des rues étroites de Venise...
