Madona dell' Orto

The north of the Cannaregio sestiere, crossed over by long and straights canals, is a spot which is sadly little known to tourists. It's however rich of some palaces, as the Mastelli Palace (which its engraved dromedary on the façade), Tintoretto's house and the Campo dei Mori. But the main monument in this part of town is La Madona dell'Orto (La madona of the Garden), named this way because it hosts a large statue of the Virgen, found il 1377 in a nearby garden.

Beautiful photos of mystical, atmospheric, dreamy Venice which cast its spell over me during my holiday last week to celebrate my 60th birthday. Canals with the gondolas; churches with amazing paintings - especially all the Tintorettos; shops with exquisite displays of Murano glass, intriguing masks, puppetry, hand-made paper, pattisiery; and no traffic...it presses all the right buttons for me. It is a singularly unique place, charming and full of history.
I like the B&W. The shape of the dome at the top is interesting, too.
I LOVE your photos ... really intelligent pictures - the next best thing to being in Venice!
Thanks - next time I'm in Venice, I'll visit the Madonna dell'Orto, looks great
